This large Thor's hammer pendant has been hand forged out of iron. The pendant has been attached to a Viking style ring and suspended on an adjustable leather necklace, with a choice of colours. This Mjolnir has a more substantial weight to it than our smaller pendants. It's simple, but elegant design will work nicely for those who prefer to wear a less ornate and more subtle pendant.

Each Thor's hammer pendant has been individually hand forged, so there may be small differences in size shape and texture. You are welcome to request a photo of the available pendants.

The length of the necklace is adjustable from 28 inches down to 16 inches.

Size (including the ring): 2 1/2 inches x 1 1/8 inches.

Materials: 99.8% pure iron and 2 mm dark brown leather cord.

Surface: Black colour, Traditionally oil quenched and hot waxed.

The Story

We spent years creating historical reproduction work for historical re-enactors, most of the Vikings.
During this time I learned to make a simple Mjolnir pendant such as the ones found on amulet rings in Sweden.
These little Thor's hammers proved popular in my budding Etsy shop, so my husband suggested to create a larger version.
Using elements from various historical finds and some newer ideas this design was created.
It has become our most popular pendant and is now well loved on three continents.

To the Norse peoples of the Viking age, Thor was one of the most popular gods. He is said to have been the god of thunder.
The crack of thunder was the sound coming from his mighty hammer "Mjollnir" as he struck down the frost giants.
The hammer was a popular talisman for luck amongst sailors, later morphing into the similar anchor shape.
As testimony to Thor's popularity amongst seafarers, Thor's name lives on in countless coastal names across Britain and Scandinavia.
The Finnish word for luck, tuuri, was derived from the name of Thor.

Wearing iron jewellery

Iron, by its very nature is not permanent, but with care it can last for a lifetime.
Our black iron pendants have three layers of protection, using the oldest methods in the blacksmith's book.
Wearing the pendant will, with time, wear the black surface off. This is why we offer a refurbishment guarantee on all our pendants.
For the cost of shipping we can restore the pendant to look as new for as long as we are working as blacksmiths.

I include more detailed care instructions with the pendant.
